Please be sure to get me a typed, double-spaced version of the rough draft of your Odyssey compositions before vacation. Otherwise, enjoy the break!

We are getting to crunch time! So, this week, please:
See you next week to finish our reading! Happy 2014!
We are spending this week revising our MCAS open responses and beginning The Odyssey. Here is the link to the short video-summary of the important themes in The Iliad (prequel to The Odyssey): http://education-portal.com/academy/lesson/the-iliad-greek-epic.html#lesson MONDAY Re-write the MCAS open response you had the hardest time with. Include three quotes and a full restatement sentence (GTAP+answer). TUESDAY Re-re-write your MCAS open response. Make sure it comes to a conclusion - a real, honest, actual conclusion! WEDNESDAY Read "The Trojan War in Brief" at the front of your new Odyssey booklets. Be ready to talk about it Thursday. Also, re-watch the video on the Iliad (the link is up top). Add to your worksheet answers. THURSDAY Answer the chapter questions for Books 1 and 2 of The Odyssey. Since I won't see you all for three weeks, I had to do something to keep you warmed up. So....
Complete the entire MCAS Practice Packet. Read all of the excerpts and poems, circle correct answers to every multiple choice question, and write responses to ALL 3 open response prompts. This will be a quiz grade - not a homework grade! Have a great vacation and MERRY CHRISTMAS! MONDAY
1. Catch up on reading "Cranes" and answering the Personal Response questions 1-5 (if you "forgot" over shop week". 2. In your packets with "Sound of Thunder" by Ray Bradbury,
All work for both stories due Tuesday. TUESDAY In Class: Review the story "Cranes" and the author's use of symbolism & flashback. HW: Think back to an important event/moment in your life. Create a symbol for yourself in that moment and explain it in 1-2 paragraphs. WEDNESDAY In Class: Review the story "Sound of Thunder" and the author's use of imagery. HW: Select one metaphor or simile from the story. Describe what it would mean if it were literal instead of figurative in 1-2 paragraphs. THURSDAY In Class: COMPUTER LABS for writing final drafts of your TKAM papers. HW: Finish final drafts if necessary. FRIDAY In Class: Illustrate your "Sound of Thunder" metaphor as though it were literal. SHOP HOMEWORK: Poetry Packet (more info to follow) MERRY CHRISTMAS! See you in 2014! OK, this week we are all essay, essay, essay!
Monday night: finish up that graphic organizer and any changes. Tuesday night: finish the rough draft. ALL ROUGH DRAFTS ARE DUE ON WEDNESDAY, EVEN IF WE DON'T HAVE CLASS. Please drop them off in homeroom if we don't meet. IF YOU ARE OUT ON WEDNESDAY, bring your rough draft & graphic organizer OK - another short week coming up, so the shop homework is even more important than usual. For Monday, please:
*Sorry for the delayed post. The site was temporarily blocked by the school firewall :( This week we will be focused on finishing up our reading of To Kill a Mockingbird and beginning the 5-paragraph composition. As a result, the amount of homework will be slightly less than usual, but the assignments are more important than ever!
Tuesday night: Remind yourself of the "three lessons" from Part One of TKAM (they should be in your notebook) and look back through Part Two of TKAM. Find and record two examples of a character using each of the lessons (for a total of 6 quotations). Be sure to write down the page number of each example. THIS IS DUE THURSDAY in class. Thursday night: Please read chapters 22, 23, 24, and 25 in To Kill a Mockingbird. You must also answer the questions I've attached below. Expect a reading quiz on Tuesday morning!
Well, it has been a long week. We've all been up late cheering on the Sox and someone (?) forgot to update the homework blog on Monday.
My apologies. As it turns out, we have spent most of the week reading through the Tom Robinson trial in To Kill a Mockingbird together. Your only homework this week was: Questions for Chapters 16 - 20. If your last name is A - L, do only the even numbered questions. M - Z students should do only the odd numbered questions. We will review and share in class. FRIDAY - all students have an in-class quiz. You will be able to use your notes. |
